The middle title "Chrishell" was a portmanteau title she created in honor of the peculiar birth situation. The mother of her child was born to the child in a Shell station. Chris, a Shell station attendant, was there to assist in the delivery. Strause says that the gossip regarding her birth is untrue. She spoke out about her mother's automobile problems, and pulled into an auto-gas station. As she waited in the gas station, she went into pre-labor and was helped by the car attendant who helped her get to the hospital. Strause was born in the hospital. Her mother separated from her biological father, who was half Japanese/half Spanish prior to her knowing she was expecting. Jeff is her father. Chrishell Strause was forced to live in a tent for one year in middle school. In that moment, Strause mentioned washing her hair in the river, taking food stamps and concealing her personal life from other students. At the age of 10, her parents struggled with addiction and mental illness. She joined the Worldwide Church of God for a period of time. Strause says her mother was a self-righteous and free spirit. Her mother did not have any steady employment.
