Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice President of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president and the most powerful female politician in U.S. history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president. A member of Democratic Party, she has previously served as the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017, and also as a United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Her first job was with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was appointed district attorney of San Francisco. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and was elected again in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for healthcare reform, federal descheduling of cannabis, a path for undocumented immigrants to become citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also supported progressive tax reform. National attention was gained for her outspoken questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
